In data management, ACID is an acronym for four key properties that guarantee database transactions are processed reliably
- Atomicity:
- Transactions are “all or nothing”—if one part of a transaction fails, the entire transaction fails, and the database state is left unchanged. [1, 2]
- Consistency:
- A transaction will only bring the database from one valid state to another, maintaining all predefined rules and constraints. [1, 2]
- Isolation:
- Ensures that multiple transactions occurring simultaneously do not interfere with or affect one another. [1]
- Durability:
- Once a transaction is committed, it will remain permanently in the database, even in the event of system failure or power loss. [1]
